My comments on tutoring Algebra I: Algebra can be easy! There is no reason why students should have to struggle with it. I've seen many reasons why students haven't gotten an A in it, and that's usually because they just aren't focused or can't seem to get motivated. Another problem with Algebra has been making connections with real life. It's very hard for a lot of kids to "get into" something when they can't see the use of it. Those real-world connections really need to be made.

I've got around 8 years of college and university work under my belt, and I am getting ready to finish a BA in Elementary Education from Western Governors University. I love teaching. I got the teaching bug while teaching English as a Foreign Language in China. I taught there for almost 9 years altogether, 1 year in Beijing, 7 years in Tianjin, and 1 year in Taiwan. I now work as a substitute teacher for Lewis County Schools and I also volunteer in the school library where I help struggling students with reading. I am very active in the classroom and I believe in making learning fun and enjoyable. There are so many ways to help children learn, yet many of them are not used for one reason or another. If information must be memorized, I like to put it to song or a rap. Other methods of learning that are very useful are concept maps, discussions, and performing. Another very success ... read more

I really enjoyed this class, as well as Algebra II. I'm currently a student at PLD Highschool and have taken all the classes listed that I'm tutoring for. Math is something I love to do on my free time and I know the basics, and beyond in some areas. Graphs of functions and applications for example. Exponential and logarithmic functions and conic sections are also a forte.

I am in the process of working on my teaching degree to become a math or English teacher. I love teaching math! I am a junior at EKU working toward my Bachelor of Science. Education major with concentrations in Math and English. I have tutored my mom in basic college math as well as statistics, and her grades have definitely improved. I have learned to accommodate individual learning needs and I find the results very rewarding! I have learned many teaching styles. Each student learns differently, so there is a technique to apply to very learning style to accommodate individual needs.

I taught high school social studies for 26 years at Tates Creek High School, primarily as a psychology teacher. I also taught a year at Tates Creek Middle School in the areas of Citizenship and American History. Since retiring, I spent five years as a substitute teacher in the Fayette County system, teaching everything in the areas of math, science, social studies, English and also in a variety of elective studies- from creative writing to geometry and history to earth science. This past year, I volunteered as an all-purpose weekly tutor for a fifth-grader at Athens-Chilesburg Elementary. I enjoy teaching and helping young people grow and gain personal confidence. I believe in learning about each student, helping him or her become comfortable with the subject matter and then guiding the student to reasonable learning proficiencies.

By working with elementary students I have exhibited that I am capable of vast patience, so I am willing to work as long as the student would require. I teach every student different, so my initial goal would be to learn about the student and find out their favorite methods of instruction. Currently a student pursuing a Master's in Accounting and my CPA. I am a double major in Business Administration and Accounting from Transylvania University. I have worked with elementary aged students since I was about 16 years old and I have now progressed into tutoring high school and college students.

I have been teaching and tutoring mathematics since the age of 15. I started working at a tutoring center where the student's ages ranged from 4-15. I then moved on to college where I studied math and computer science. I was a teaching assistant for Calculus I and II. My responsibilities included leading group tutorials and working one on one in the tutoring center on campus. At graduate school I taught Calculus I, II, and III as a standalone lecturer. After I graduated from the University of Chicago I was an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Over the three years that I was there I taught seven different classes, ranging from freshman calculus to senior level Euclidean Geometry. I then spent a year teaching online precalculus. I moved to Lexington and worked for three years as a lecturer in the Math department at UK. My classes were mostly la

I have been tutoring students of all ages since I was in high school. I began by tutoring my own peers in math and social studies. I would also tutor children from 1st grade on up in all subjects. Once in college, I tutored college students and younger in many fields, primarily mathematics courses. My specialty quickly became preparation for standardized tests as well as calculus because I have a unique ability to discover how each student learns and tailor the lessons to their needs. I can quickly find where the knowledge gaps exist for each student and fill in those gaps, in order to create a complete understanding of the topic, not just get them to memorize answers. My teaching style varies for each student, I try to tailor the work to how the student learns.
