As an English Education major, I have had numerous encounters in the classroom with each of my classroom practicums. After completing my degree in the fall of 2009, I will have over three semesters of classroom experience, working with students from the sixth grade to the twelfth grade. I have also worked as a childcare provider for several years, in addition to tutoring both Math and English as a part-time job.

Everytime I see a student's eyes light up after learning something new or interesting to them it makes me feel like I have done something great. I am a very patient person and love helping students achieve academic success. When a student says to me that they need a little extra help with something it means that they want to learn and when a student wants to learn I am all for it. A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching all ages, nearly all subjects. I understand that everyone has different styles of learning. When teaching to a group, ideally all styles would be touched on (auditory, visual, hands-on). When working one-on-one, though, it is possible to teach towards that individual's particular style of learning. This works so much better than a one-size-fits-all method of teaching. If one way of teaching isn't working, I search for a different approach, until I find one that works. I try to explain concepts using ideas and terms that the student is familiar with. This allows the student to relate new concepts to already familiar ones, which helps it 'stick' better. I love 'aha' or 'lightbulb' moments - it makes it all worthwhile!

Throughout high school and college, I've always excelled in my school work. I was president of the math club and often tutored my peers during my spare time. The University of Florida has provided me with a well rounded education, and I feel myself knowledgable in many areas, from languages like french, spanish and hindi, to the sciences like chemistry, biology, and physics. I'm also very familiar with writing term papers.
I like to teach by example and immersion. So much of what schools preach today is rote memorization, and to a certain degree, this cannot be avoided. But whenever possible, I like to try and find real world applications and demonstrations to get my lessons across to my pupil.
