Every student can learn, I help them find their own SUCCESS!

I began working with children at the age of 10 in the capacity of babysitter/activities director. As a teen I began working in daycare centers and have worked in the capacity of teacher/assistant teacher/ director/owner. I have taught public school in Florida and the Bronx, NY over the past 5 years. I have worked as a drop-out prevention teacher and have had the privileged to work with a large number of disadvantaged and at-risk students.
I have strong classroom management skills and a passion for helping kids gain a better understanding for anything under the sun! I have high expectations of what my students can do, and help support them in achieving those expectations. My philosophy is that "can't" is the worst 4 letter word in the dictionary, as a result, I work to motivate my students to become life long learners and to enjoy learning new things.

My comments on tutoring English ESOL : Two years experience as Senior ESOL instructor with Inlingua (Vienna, Austria). As a substitute instructor for 22 other staff, I was frequently told that I was the first instructor whose every word was understood. As stated elsewhere, I have offered ESOL in many other areas including Tarpon Springs Campus of St. Petersburg College, with Korean Air Force Officers and as a volunteer with H.E.A.R.T. and R.S.V.P.

For the greater part of my life I have been involved in various facets of education. I have acted as substitute teacher at the middle and high school levels for a total of 10 years, 8 of which were spent at 12 schools in Vermont and 2 at 10 schools in Hernando County FL. I held the position of Senior ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) with a highly reputed language school in Vienna, Austria for a period of 2 years and have offered ESOL instruction as a volunteer teacher at the Tarpon Springs campus of St. Petersburg College and with the Hernando County branches of H.E.A.R.T. and R.S.V.P. I have given prvate English language lessons to individuals from Nepal, Brazil and Puerto Rico. From December 2011 through April 2012 I was employed by "A Quantum Leap" as aa tutor under the SES program. While in the military, I volunteered to instruct Korean Air Force officers in correct ... read more

If it can be fun, make it fun. If not, make it short.

My motto is if at all possible, I want to make learning fun. When that's impossible, let's get it over with quickly, so we can get back to the fun part. I'm a lifelong learner, so I practice what I preach.
Throughout my teaching and tutoring career, I have often found that I can help my students achieve beyond what was expected of them. At the end of this process, my biggest joy is to see my student successfully working on the tasks without my assistance. I've taught in public school and private school from PreK through 12th grade and even adult learners. Elementary students have learned to read. A high school senior learned to do basic math for the first time in his life. Homeschooling my own children was another such amazing time in my growth as an educator. I love sharing my knowledge, or even learning together with my students. One such case was when I coached a parent thro ... read more

I have been tutoring for many years both privately and for Title I schools. I have tutored k-12, as well as college students in most subjects. I love the arts, writing, and science. I have a passion for getting students interested in learning, getting creative, and learning art as early as possible. The same method applies to math and science, where I try to get students to see their subjects in different ways and apply the learning to what they love most or at least can relate to better.
I am patient and creative when it comes to teaching and visually showing my students different ways to apply what they learn.

I have a passion for systems and teaching others how to not be intimidated when learning new things. I feel that I can teach anything that I know. From teaching my grandmother how to write at the time that I was learning how to write, I have taught many people throughout my life. I am naturally a good teacher in that I can quickly assess where the student is at then I can also quickly assess how much I believe they can learn in one session. Also I am skilled in knowing how to approach a student depending on his age and background.
When it comes to learning I have always been a very curious person and that is what helps me to learn. I took a logic test at a college job fair and was recruited to work for one of the largest insurance companies in the nation with one of the largest legacy systems, written in COBOL. I learned to read code and to test code and became more proficient and ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Not only do I love to teach and help students learn, I also enjoy helping students develop an appreciation for learning in general. The most gratifying experience while teaching is the look on a student's face, after hours of confusion, after they reach an understanding of the concept. The environment that I believe works the best is one that allows the student to have fun while learning; which creates a more positive environment for future learning. I remember my experiences with teachers that not only instructed lessons, but also brought fun and enjoyment to the experience. I try to follow in their footsteps, and lead other students to a similar appreciation.

I began my teaching career working with young children in a pre-school. Eventually, I became the director of a preschool in Florida. In 1997, I became a teacher in the Florida school system for a Pre-K special needs classroom. During this time I received a master's degree in Varying Exceptionalities. In 2009, I was transferred to an Emotional Behavior Development classroom with 5 students. Each student required specialized lessons and modes of teaching. More About This Tutor...

I would describe my teaching style as very patient and child-oriented. I believe I am good at meeting the child where he or she is at and then taking them to the next level quickly. I do not believe in wasting time if there is mastery of a subject and this includes being willing to devote more time to the true areas of difficulty. I am very praising and positive and believe in showing a child not just how to succeed in a sepcific subject but how to develop skills that will help them succeed in all areas including life!
I graduated in 1981 with a French Degree and proceeded to work in Community Centers and YMCA-type facilities doing program development, coaching, after-school and summer camp activities as well as hands-on childcare and some tutoring. I am currently enrolled in an Educator Preparation Institute to obtain my certification to teach. In the meantime, I am employed as a substitute teacher for Pasco County, and I previously volunteered for after school care tutoring programs for children between the ages of 6-18. I feel that I have a very positive attitude, and when I am dealing with children I try to remain clam and comical. I feel that if I can try to, no only, encourage the child to learn, but also to equate learning with a positive feeling/attitude then the process of learning will become that much more enjoyable.
