My comments on tutoring Elementary Math : I taught 1st grade in OKCPS. I piloted the Every Day Math program for my school. I am very experienced with Every Day Math.

I specialize in the foundational reading skills, phonological awareness, phonics, and fluency, with vocabulary and comprehension mixed in. Most children who aren't comprehending what they are reading have holes somewhere in there foundational reading skills. I work diligently to fill in these holes to create a solid reading foundation.

As a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, I began my teaching career in mathematics at the junior high school level. I taught Algebra I to eighth graders. While teaching, I returned to school and received my M.Ed as a Reading Specialist. After working in that area for a few years, I became an inner city high school principal. I generally try to remain as friendly as possible with the tutee so that he/she can relax and learn in a comfortable environment. I work on a first-name basis and try to make sure that the student is LEARNING, rather than merely finishing his/her homework.
