I strongly believe that an education that leads with concepts instead of rote is the surest route to lifelong success. This is certainly the method that worked for me, and I find that, without the conceptual grounding, a student will not get as much out of necessary practice exercises. Thus, when I am working with a student on a subject, I tend to approach the concept foremost, creatively using a wide range of examples and descriptions to elucidate it. This is the best use of my time with a student, instead of just correcting their exercises. Educationally, I have a BA in Mathematics from Vassar College, a school where I achieved a high level of success graduating with high honors both generally and within my major. While this gives me the mastery necessary to approach all levels of math up to the graduate level, my teaching experience makes it possible for me to convey those subjects to my students.
