Tutor for the summer

I am a speech therapist with 11 years and experience. I have worked with students pre-k through 12th grade, primarily pre-k through 5th grade. I have extensive experience working with students on reading comprehension, answering and asking questions, semantics of language (antonyms, synonyms, multiple meanings of words, attributes, categorization), syntax, grammar, phonics and much more! I have mainly worked with kids with disabilities, including autism, developmental delays, communication delays, speech and language impairment, and Down Syndrome. As a psychology major I was fascinated with how the mind works in all arenas. I learned the various methodologies used in teaching people and found in my tutoring that finding a way to present even the most difficult material in a manner to make it understandable is greatly satisfying. Through tutoring and teaching others I gained a higher comprehension of the material at hand and learned more about both myself and people in general. A Little Bit About Me...

As it has evolved over the years, my teaching style has become a mix of facilitation and direct instruction, with the goal always being the student's making his own discovery. I was trained in the Socratic style, which seems to match well with inquiry-based learning, and that is how my classes usually end up. I introduce activities, then gradually release them to the students to lead.
