Since 1996, I have been a successful elementary school teacher servicing students in grades K-8. Along with being a classroom teacher, I have obtained my Administrative Credential and Masters in Education with an emphasis on best practices. I have the background to assess students and develop individualized goals to meet their needs.
Most children have had positive and negative experiences at school. A Little Bit About Me...

Because each student, young or old, responds to different learning stimuli (graphical or verbal) at diffrent rates, I always try to get to know my student first. I then try to tailor my tutoring to how they respond best and retain what they've learned. I believe in repetition and using examples that a student can relate to, and then testing the student's understanding of the subject matter.
As the oldest of five children, my 15+ years of tutoring experience includes helping my siblings in their homework when we were growing up. In a one-on-one situation, I prefer dialogue. Assuming the student does the assigned work before the session, I find that a informal, relaxed conversation on the subject matter at hand encourages the student to further explore the addressed topic. If I am familiar with the student's extra-curricular interests, I attempt to relate the subject matter to such interests. I find that questioning the student in a conversational manner produces the best results, as opposed to the more stringent (i.e. boring) task of fill-in-the-blank worksheets. For writing assignments, I ask the student to write a paragraph which we then go over line-by-line so the student has immediate feedback on any errors.

I have worked with children and young people all my adult life from teaching VBS as a teenager to presently being a tutor and substitute teacher.
