I enjoy watching students grasp the scientific method as it is something that comes naturally to most people if put in the right context. Science is rewarding to teach because it incorporates other disciplines like math. I often receive comments about my effective teaching style. I believe this is because of my education and that teaching science is a passion for me and a lifetime pursuit. I have noticed that people understand science better when it is related to their life. In other words, the student can apply a scientific concept in their own life. I have yet to meet a student unable to grasp scientific concepts that has gone through the mental exercise of the scientific method.

I have a deep conviction to helping students achieve both their academic and personal goals. I don't feel that merely passing a class is enough. I want the students I work with to feel like they have accomplished something for themselves, and have really learned tools for success. I am patient and kind, but I also ask a lot of the people I work with. I enjoy working with students who are elementary aged up through college aged. I particularly love working with middle school students. I am sensitive to student's individual needs and realize that everyone learns at their own pace and in their own way. When I tutor in mathematics, I try to help students develop conceptual understanding, not just procedural knowledge. I believe that all students are capable of understanding mathematics and am able to provide different methods of instruction based on the student's needs. With my background in literacy, I also try to help students see mathematics as a language, or as another way to express ideas.
