I have a deep conviction to helping students achieve both their academic and personal goals. I don't feel that merely passing a class is enough. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with students who are elementary aged up through college aged. I particularly love working with middle school students. I am sensitive to student's individual needs and realize that everyone learns at their own pace and in their own way. When I tutor in mathematics, I try to help students develop conceptual understanding, not just procedural knowledge. I believe that all students are capable of understanding mathematics and am able to provide different methods of instruction based on the student's needs. With my background in literacy, I also try to help students see mathematics as a language, or as another way to express ideas. A Little Bit About Me...

I have a strong interest in the sciences of the world. I earned a bachelor degree in ecology including a minor in botany. I also earned a Master degree in biology studying mountain quail. During my undergraduate and graduate education I participated in the GK-12 program as a scientist in residence. I spent 20 hours a week in the middle school and high school setting for two years. The purpose of the GK-12 program was to help increase scientific literacy in southern Idaho. I am keenly aware of the challenges that face middle school and high school students in grasping scientific concepts. I also taught biology at the college level and I have recognized that many students are at different levels of scientific understanding.
