Elementary Math is one of my top subjects! Math was always my strongest subject. Sadly many children struggle with math and the US places very low compared to the rest of the world in Math scores. A student cannot learn unless he is comfortable and confident. My first priority before teaching is to make sure the student is relaxed and believes he can accomplish the goal. It is of the utmost importance that a student understands the separate components of a theory or process in order to comprehend the larger picture. Therefore, I believe rote learning seriously prohibits true understanding for many students.
