I am a strong believer in relational learning and that is why I support the concept of tutoring. I was fortunate to be able to enter college full-time at the age of fourteen. This gave a great opportunity to pursue a wide variety of interests and still graduate slightly ahead of my peers. As a result I had almost completed the requirements for majors in several subjects, including chemistry, German, music and the subject I received my degree in, biology. In addition to taking courses in these subjects, I was able to work as a German tutor for over a year and as a teaching assistant for two sections of first semester organic chemistry.

My method is very student-centered: learn the student's interests, strengths, weaknesses, and needs, and the way to properly teach them anything will be clear as day. I believe very strongly that people best digest knowledge when it's delivered to them "in their own language," and in ways that they can easily identify cognitively. I also bring in a very patient, nurturing, and encouraging attitude that allows for even frustrating subjects to be learned at a sound and progressive pace without extreme amounts of stress or pressure. I attended Houghton College for 2 1/2 years. Then I went to NCCC and earned an AS, then transferred to Charter Oak State College. They took all the credits I had earned as a student at both schools, allowed me to define my degree, told me which additional credits I needed and granted my degree. I have homeschooled my children for 15 years. My oldest is 19 and going to RIT in the fall. He has an AS which he got the week he turned 18. I also have two teens whom I currently school. I have taught them math courses including Algebra and Geometry, American History, writing, reading, etc. I also taught a class in Spanish 1 for other homeschooled students.
