I am just currently finishing a BS in Biology at Mount Mary College, with a 4.0 GPA. I have had experience tutoring students in the English language for about a year and a half through a service learning program at Milwaukee Acheivers held in conjunction with my school. Although I do not have any formal experience with tutoring in Biology I have often played an integral part in group student learning, and have helped many of my fellow classmates understand material. Free and unconstrained autobiographical writing is one of the best ways to coax a student insecure about his or her writing skills into putting into words intense experiences from their own life. I tell my students to just tell me in their own words what they are trying to say. When they speak aloud, the words flow, and then I say, "There is your opening sentence right there. Quick! Write it down." I love teaching children and being able to see them learn. It is awesome to see and hear when they finally "get it" or when they understand something that I taught them. Moreover, when a student gives you an answer to a question and uses an example of something that you taught them earlier, it really shows you how quickly they can pick things up.
