I learned to be patient, understanding and compassionate when dealing with a student’s learning style one-on-one. I have acquired the skills to adapt to an individual’s unique learning style by using their other senses. A student will learn most effectively by utilizing various parts of the brain by seeing it, hearing it and writing it down. And, just like learning a new person’s name, you have to repeat it over and over again in your head until it becomes learned.

As a female in a predominantly male field I’ve had to formulate a self-teaching method since most of my professors were male and seemed to think and teach in similar ways. My goal when tutoring is to help the student discover which learning methods work best for them whether it’s memorization techniques such as mind-mapping and mnemonic acronyms and/or study skills, for example, establishing a study routine.

I earned a BS degree in biochemistry and did a senior thesis in organic chemistry. This inspired me to earn a PhD in biochemistry in Boston College's chemistry department. During those extensive years of education I studied many areas of chemistry and biology in depth. In addition, I excel at problem solving and research. My writing skills have been honed after years of writing research papers and theses.
