I believe in the expression “that you have two ears on one mouth for a reason, in that you should listen twice as much as you speak.” You have to know what the problem is before you can begin to solve it. I learned to be patient, understanding and compassionate when dealing with a student’s learning style one-on-one. I have acquired the skills to adapt to an individual’s unique learning style by using their other senses. A student will learn most effectively by utilizing various parts of the brain by seeing it, hearing it and writing it down. And, just like learning a new person’s name, you have to repeat it over and over again in your head until it becomes learned.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a female in a predominantly male field I’ve had to formulate a self-teaching method since most of my professors were male and seemed to think and teach in similar ways. My goal when tutoring is to help the student discover which learning methods work best for them whether it’s memorization techniques such as mind-mapping and mnemonic acronyms and/or study skills, for example, establishing a study routine.
In the years prior to high school I struggled with math but I had a few excellent teachers (my mother included) that lifted my confidence and taught me that I can achieve my goals through perseverance, encouragement and mentoring. I realized that math is simply a step-wise pattern of correctly followed operations.
