As a female in a predominantly male field I’ve had to formulate a self-teaching method since most of my professors were male and seemed to think and teach in similar ways. My goal when tutoring is to help the student discover which learning methods work best for them whether it’s memorization techniques such as mind-mapping and mnemonic acronyms and/or study skills, for example, establishing a study routine. I am currently a Biology Major at the University of Southern Maine. I have completed my degree requirements for my BS, I’m finishing up by taking an additional 9 credits this semester before walking for graduation in the Spring, May 2011. During my four years in college I have taken 11 laboratory courses, providing me with extensive knowledge and experience in writing research papers, lab reports and scientific reviews. I graduate May 2009 from Simmons College with a BS in Biochemistry. My courses taken during my undergraduate career were heavily focused in the sciences.
