My comments on tutoring GED : Standardized tests prep is my favorite type of tutoring sessions because it enhances knowledge a student already has. I teach them to utilize that knowledge to develop skills that can be useful over an entire spectrum of things. It is exciting to see how suprised some students are at their own innate skills in subjects they felt were their weakest.

I am a licensed Social worker with tutoring experience in and out of college. I have the most experience in tutoring Algebra and other math. I have a student now that I am helping with AP English who has dyslexia. I enjoy watching her grammar skills increase and her overall understanding of the concepts develop. I am great with any age individual and have the patience it takes to work with any kind of student (special needs included).
I believe that people learn the best when they understand the meaning and logic behind what they are learning. When a student can see a pattern develop they develop an understanding that can be universally applied to many different areas of study and life circumstances. Learning is different then memorizing. It is especially important to understand the concepts behind the subject matter when planning continue in a similar learning subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked with homeless families to further thier education and their children. I have created, promoted, and taught in a GED program for young adults up to seniors in odrer for them to aquire their GED.
I am hands on. I am very parient and to not get frustrated easily. I do not have an age preference becuase I enjoy working with all age groups. I am personaly continuing with my Masters in September of this year. I cannot express how important education is to further your ability to care and provide for your family. I love working with children on this subject as well. I have taken MANY communication and diversity/ethics classes and have a firm understanding of how to approach and communicate with people on many educational and social levels. I LOVE to communicate and teach how to better communicate with others.

I currently teach to a diverse, at-risk population employing a variety of teaching methods. Many of my students are considered "gifted" after I teach them. My first grade students have reached as high as the 4th-6th grade reading levels. After one year of instruction, one of my piano students (age 6) was deemed a child prodigy during the National Piano Guild at Christopher Newport University. A Little Bit About Me...

Students need to be equipped with the research skills and ability to fetter out information from a number of different sources. The information must be timely, accurate, credible, relevant, etc. The days of going to a library and pulling volumes of texts to research substantive information has changed. Now, most students understand what a Boolean search is. However, many don’t know much beyond the internet. This is both an imperative skill as a successful student, and as a potential graduate seeking employment.
