I volunteered for the Special Olympics and for the D.A.R.E program from Elementary students back in 2003 and 2008. With the Special Olympics, I helped cook and serve food to the contestants in the olympics and I also was there to be a friendly and supportive coach-assistant to the athletes. With the D.A.R.E program, I went to Elementary schools in the town of Faribault MN, and I worked along side with the police department to show and educate kids the dangers of meeting strangers and how to handle that type of situation. I don't have a wide teaching experience but I do enjoy working and helping Elementary or junior high leveled children. Ay my most recent job, I worked in a dept called 'PLAYLAND" where I was responsible for taking care and keeping the children of our customers entertained and busy as their parent's shopped for groceries. When training employees, my teaching style has always been to learn by doing. I believe that people do best in learning a new task when one explains the task before doing, then shows how to do the task while explaining, and then asks the trainee to do the task with guidance. The same goes for teaching an academic subject - explain how it is done, show a couple of examples while explaining, and then ask them to try with guidance. If this method of teaching is not working for a particular student, I will adapt my teaching to fit his/her needs. I believe that every person has the ability to learn any subject; one just needs to find the method in order to keep them interested and absorbing information. As a summa cum laude graduate with a BS in Chemistry I worked for over 25 years in the printing industry. One of my responsibilities was to explain to the pressmen the chemistry and physics of the printing process so that they could be better printers. I enjoy teaching and investing in children. I was credentialed as a Substitute Teacher. When I taught in public schools teachers would request me by name to teach for their classes. I have experience working with elementary ages through high school and even adults. When teaching I try to break complex materials and concepts down into practical illustrations and concepts so the student can see the big picture then fit the concept into that picture.
