At our first session, I ask that each student complete a short quiz to determine their learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc). Every child learns differently and I believe that discovering what works best for each student is the first step towards success. Once we figure out what his/her learning style is, I cater to this. If they learn best by reading, I'll prepare worksheets based on what they're learning; if they're hands-on learners, I'll make an activity.
My experience with tutoring began in high school, when I started assisting elementary students with homework through one of my clubs. I have a BS in Math with a History minor. I worked about 30 years for Huntington Bank, including 10 years as a main frame computer programmer/manager. I also worked as a senior manager for a national computer outsourcing company and, most recently as an insurance agent, a notary public and the owner/operator of a retail shipping store. I enjoy working with young children and high school kids. I believe that it is important to get anyone I teach to be active in the education they are recieving.
