Most of my career experience has been in News-Editorial and creative writing. As my daughter and son (now young adults) have grown and matured, I have been involved at several levels and in various paid and volunteer capacities as teacher, assistant/aide, and tutor. My substitute teaching experience primarily has been in the subjects of English, social studies, music, math, and art.
I am patient, kind, respectful, and good-humored. I have noted that my own excitement in learning is contagious. I believe each of us excels in individual areas of particular interest. I support self-esteem, self-respect, and respect for others, and I think these qualities and values are self-motivating. I learn, as well, from those whom I teach.

I have been teaching and working with children for the past 10 years in Montessori Schools, YMCAs, church groups, before and after school programs, city summer programs. In college I earned a degree in Applied Communications where I learned the art of effective communcation, through the mediums of writing, speaking and non verbal communication. I have earned two bachelor degrees;a BA in Psychology and a BA in Child Development. I also have an AA in General Studies with the focus on Early Childhood Education. I have been a director of a preschool for 4 years. I have taught in 2 preschools. I have tutored children, below the average reading level, in grades 1-6. I was the Site Supervisor in an elementary age after-school program.I have an American Sign Language certificate and passing scores on the CBEST (California Basic Edcuational Skills Test).

I think good class materials, sufficient examples and explanations are important for effective learning.
