I have been given a solid education at the undergraduate level at The College of Saint Rose where I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Childhood Education. I have my NYS Initial Teaching Certification in both Early Childhood Education and Childhood Education. I have just recently been accepted into the college’s Curriculum and Instruction program at the Graduate Level. I am also working on an advanced certificate in teaching student with disabilities. I have recently finished a yearlong mentoring program through a local elementary school called the ‘Help Yourself Academy’, which allows underprivileged children to have positive role models in their everyday life. Educating children is something I take pride in and get reward out of. There is nothing I love more than working with children. I am continually fascinated by how children learn and how they help me to grow as an educator.

Last May I graduated from Skidmore College with a degree in history. My passion for history has been driven by my voracious appetite for knowledge. Writing, reading, and critical thinking are of the utmost importance to me. Education is not only a means of acquiring future jobs but of a creating a nation of critical thinkers. Growing up I dealt with dyslexia. I understand that each and every kid has a different learning style and not one style is better then the rest. My goal is to make learning as much fun as possible by pin-pointing the learning style of the student and finding ways to make learning more interesting. I love working with children. I was involved in girl scouts from first grade all the way to 12th grade and in those years I learned a lot of leadership skills. I am very patient and want to provide education to anyone that needs it. When I was in school I often struggled with school work, so I learned many different techniques to learn how to learn. While I was an undergraduate, volunteering was very important to me. One of the places I volunteered was an after school program for children who live in Hamilton Hill. While I volunteered there I helped many of them with there homework as well as extra reading and writing to help improve those skills. The best teaching style in my opinion, explains how to research, plan and write essays, gives students time to practice these skills in class, and ensures students get feedback on how well they have done on each sub-skill. Students learn skills by using them in a realistic, subject-specific context, and in a combined way. So they might use other skills taught before such as note taking, highlighting, all in context. The purpose of the skills are stressed, students are taught not just what to do and how, but also why. In addition to academics, my students and I focus a lot on being good citizens, and having open/honest communication. I try to foster an environment that instills respect and understanding. In reading, we do both guided reading and book club units. This allows students to get individual skills, along with discussing full texts with one another.
