Striving to make the student feel comfortable is part of my basic repertoire of teaching strategies. I know that when a student does not succeed in a typical classroom environment it is easy for the student to feel negative about learning. Our society is based on the 'cookie cutter' ideology one size fits all. So when I tutor I strive for the student to feel comfortable first. I prefer to teach by utilizing real-life situations that are pertinent to the subject matter. In my opinion, when you are able to bring the subject matter to life by making it relevant to the students you are teaching, there is a greater chance that the student will not only understand the information, but remember it long after they leave the classroom.
