My comments on tutoring Math : Math is a matter of understanding a few simple rules and applying them in different situations, which is an important skill no matter which grade you're in! I can help you understand concepts and practice math skills to improve your grasp of math and raise your grades!

For tutoring, I prefer face-to-face lessons, because it makes it easier for me to gauge how well the student is understanding the material. I try to explain concepts in a variety of ways to find out how the student learns best, whether through repetition, example, metaphor, application... whatever works! I have tutored kids with all kinds of needs and a few with pretty short attention spans :) For piano lessons, I would use the Alfred library of teaching materials, as that is how I was taught and it works wonders on new learners! In addition to reading music, I would focus on performance techniques and theory as well.

Every student learns in a different way, at a different pace, and much of the fun for me in the process of teaching is improvisation: discovering which methods work best for each student. My first career was as a Registered Professional Nurse (NYS licensure) for 25 years. During those years, I kept up my interest in various fields of math, such as Abstract Algebra, Differential equations, and topology. I enjoy being creative in the classroom. I try to develop activities that will help my students master the material but also enjoy learning. I also think it is critical to get to know your students both in and out of the classroom. This helps you to better know their interests so you are able to use these to develop appropriate lessons.
I have always loved mathematics and during high school I knew I wanted to work with children. During my senior year of high school I completed the Regional Program of Excellence through BOCES. This experience made me determine that becoming a teacher was what I wanted to do. I attended Siena College from September of 2005 until May of 2009.
