More About This Tutor...

I enjoy teaching and helping others excel. I am willing to go that extra mile to get the job done and I make sure that not only a student passes but they learn along the way. I have several styles of teaching and I like to keep it interesting by changing up the way that I present the material to keep the student engaged and interested. I like for the students to participate, communicate and provide feedback. This gives me the opportunity to see what they know and what they don't know. Also it allows me to see the growth in the student, allows me to tell whether or not they are learning, and it also allows me to know what approach to take in delivering the materials on their level in which they can understand and comprehend.

Visual and audio aids, kinesthetic materials, as well as communication are a must for me as a teacher to tackle the many different types of learning styles. I enjoy teaching children the fundamental aspects of any subject, and delight in witnessing the brightening of that child's comprehension of the subject. I am a firm believer that every child harbors their own level of 'genius', and is capable of learning to their maximum potential. I believe every child deserves a chance to achieve at the height of their capability, provided they are given the chances and the educational tools for success in an encouraging, nurturing environment. I hope that the remainder of my career is utilized as the impetus for those achievements.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have found that the best way to teach is to be flexible, understand your student(s), and find out what will work best for them. Some students need more 'hands on' math and science projects, some students express themselves best through art and/or oratory, and then of course there are the readers and writers. I have learned through my professional trainings and experiences that there are ways to reach and, more importantly, expand each person's capacity to learn by allowing the best expression of their talents and abilities.
I am the son of a teacher and have therefore had the value of a good education as a part of my world view. Both of my parents are also avid readers and critical thinkers and instilled the virtues of scholastic practice. Hence, I embarked on a collegiate career that included 12 years studying philosophy, history, religion, Irish Studies, literature, and finally ... read more

As a college graduate within the past 4 years I have earned 2 degrees, a BA in Psychology and an AS in Graphic Design. While working on my Graphic design degree I was approached by the Department head to work/tutor in the first semester lab. For this position I was required to take a 1 credit tutoring class, which showed me the fundamentals of how to work with diverse personality and learning types. I addition to my degrees I excelled in English and Math studies and graduated with a 3.65 GPA for my BA, and Honors for my AS.
I feel everyone has their own learning style, first i get to know the student to understand their style so I can effectively assist them in getting the best experience from sessions. A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching private guitar lessons while I was still in High School. While working on my Bachelor's degree in Columbus Ohio I taught guitar and tutored Spanish. In 2002, I moved to Florida where I began working on my MA in Adult and Secondary Education with a concentration in Spanish. I have completed the requirements of that MA degree but have not applied to graduate in that I am taking MA level courses in TESOL to allow for a second concentration under the same Masters' degree. I have been tutoring Spanish, Portuguese, writing and English for Speakers of Other Languages at UNF for the last seven semesters. For me tutoring and teaching are not just a profession they are a passion.
