I have had the privilege of covering politics, business, government, courts, police and community news; as well as feature writing. Additionally I taught JRN 295 for six semesters at Michigan State University.
It has been my experience that students (regardless of age) learn best when the lessons can be adapted to things that are relevant to their lives. Journalism takes in every aspect of life, so whether it is 3D printing, gardening or politics learning to apply the tenets of journalism makes one a better writer and thinker.

My teaching style consists of finding that unique style that will suit each individual student. Growing up, I noticed that it was very hard for certain students to grasp certain concepts because they were not engaged in the teaching method. It is no secret that everyone learns a certain way, and no two ways are ever the same. I believe that my patience, my calm demeanor, and habit of wanting to make learning something fun rather than a job has certainly helped me in my education. I also am a big proponent of having children set goals for themselves. Setting goals makes you work harder without feeling the pressure, and I've learned that once children reach that goal they will just want to go higher.

My teaching style involves demonstrating how to understand a problem or perform a task before I ask the student to do so. By facilitating students in such a way, I believe they have a more one-on-one learning experience, as opposed to a strict lecture setting. I have a BS in journalism, and a specialization in advertising/integrated marketing communications. I also have minors in English and psychology.
