I believe that not all people learn the same. I certainly learn differently depending on the subject. I also know that reading and writing papers can be a scary task. I specialize in close reading, which means getting students to understand what they are reading and come up with a topic for a paper. I feel that taking a book one small part at a time will help to understand the whole. I believe the best way to learn the skills of reading and writing is to discuss books and topics with others. While I was going to Butler County Community College I peer tutored students in both mathematics thru calculus II and english composition I and II. My trigonometry teacher had me substitute teach his college algebra and trigonometry courses for him while he away. This was some of the most satisfying work I have ever done. When a student finally understood what I was explaining it was like you could see the light come on in their head. Not only did I help the student learn the topic but it made me feel good because I had helped them.
Teaching is one of the most satisfying things I have ever done. I believe that everybody can learn, you just have to find the right teaching method for that individual.
