A Little Bit About Me...

I am a 2014 graduate of Marymount University where I received a Masters in Special Education. I have teaching experience at both the elementary and middle school levels. In middle school, I focused on teaching 7th grade Math, but am comfortable in Language Arts as well. Along with teaching, I have been a nanny for many years and therefore have experience with kids beyond the classroom.
I believe each person is unique and different. Therefore, my teaching style is individualized depending on the student and their needs. I do however believe in a hands-on, interactive approaches in order to keep students engaged and interested in learning.

My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I have had stellar success working with students with decoding disorders, though I do not follow a prescribed curriculum such as OG.

Let's start out by saying I am definitely not your average tutor! Fun is vital to motivation, and I live on the stuff! I have been teaching for over fifteen years in a variety of environments, working in inclusive environments with children aged birth to twelve. I am now in my second year as a Special Education Teacher at a private school in DC that specializes in working with children who have Learning and Emotional Disabilities. I hold my M.Ed.HD in Special Education from GWU and a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education. I feel that I do my best work with Elementary age children. I like to make education fun and easily accessible. I love using games and hands on activities to teach lessons. When I first attended college I studied elementary education. I put my education on hold to stay at home and raise my children. During that time I was a compulsive volunteer with different support groups within the school system. I decided to complete my education as my children got older and received my bachelors degree and continued to take classes so that I am now able to sit for my CPA and I have also completed the necessary undergraduate requirement in order to teach business classes. I have also been a long term substitute teach in working with special education students.
Every child can learn and children learn at different levels. A teaching style must change to meet the needs of the child because what may work for one child may not work for another.
