My comments on tutoring Dyslexia : I have had stellar success working with students with decoding disorders, though I do not follow a prescribed curriculum such as OG.

Let's start out by saying I am definitely not your average tutor! Fun is vital to motivation, and I live on the stuff! I have been teaching for over fifteen years in a variety of environments, working in inclusive environments with children aged birth to twelve. I am now in my second year as a Special Education Teacher at a private school in DC that specializes in working with children who have Learning and Emotional Disabilities. I hold my M.Ed.HD in Special Education from GWU and a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education. During the summer, I serve as the Behavior Intervention Specialist for Fairfax County Park Authority in Inclusion camps. Even in high school and college, I tutored peers and proofread papers. Currently, I tutor clients in Clinton, MD twice a week, and in Alexandria twice a week, so I m able to take on clients in/near those locations. In addition to tutoring, I am ... read more

I firmly know each child can success and I will do research to find out the approach to each child's learning the subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

When I first attended college I studied elementary education. I put my education on hold to stay at home and raise my children. During that time I was a compulsive volunteer with different support groups within the school system. I decided to complete my education as my children got older and received my bachelors degree and continued to take classes so that I am now able to sit for my CPA and I have also completed the necessary undergraduate requirement in order to teach business classes. I have also been a long term substitute teach in working with special education students.
Every child can learn and children learn at different levels. A teaching style must change to meet the needs of the child because what may work for one child may not work for another. I am patient and kind with students while still being firm when teaching students. I use positive reinforcement to achie ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I enjoy working with a wide variety of kids. Every child has the ability to be sucessful if they are reached in the right way, and that is my goal in teaching. Patience plays a large role in finding the correct learning method for each child and that is where I shine. Some of my best overall experinces in teahing have come from the more difficult students who have stuggled in school or have been turned off by school all together. There is nothing more rewarding than to see all of the hard work pay off once the student is headed in the right direction.
I have been working for the past two years at a school in Washington, DC. There I was a full-time substitute for grades K-8 and was the assistant director to the after-school program. After I spent five years in the finacial planning field, I realized my passion for working with youth through coaching basketball. Two years ago I chang ... read more

Teaching is my passion and I believe that by teaching I can instill firm educational values in children and help develop within them a desire to learn and grow, which will lead to academic pride and success. I’ve taught for five years at Public School 94 in the Bronx, NY and two years in Woodbridge, VA. Working as a New York City public school teacher has allowed me to acquire valuable skills and experience needed to build a solid foundation for my teaching career. Working with students, parents/guardians, and co-workers from diverse backgrounds has enriched and heightened my cultural sensitivity and understanding and has enabled me to meet the needs of a rich and diverse population.
Guided by experiences in my life and lessons I’ve learned through teaching, I’ve come to understand that all children learn differently. My goal is to first determine where the students need help, b ... read more
