A Little Bit About Me...

Most of my professional teaching experience was with Lexington/Richland School District 5, where I substituted and taught General Music from 1997-2008. During that time I worked with students from Pre-K - 5th grade, and I enjoyed interacting with each age group. One interesting thing about teaching music was how the lessons often carried over to other subjects, so that in music class we also worked with math and science (music theory), reading (song lyrics), and social studies (music origins and styles). In addition to classroom experience, I have also worked one-on-one, teaching private piano lessons and tutoring with an adult literacy program. I love working with children and students of all ages. I was a volunteer at Shriners Childrens Hospital for many years in the recreational therapy department. I was a "class teacher" at a friend's daycare part time, and I held a summer job as a lifeguard and swim instructor for many years. With my Bachelor's degree, I began tutoring through Reading Success and conducted private tutoring of Georgia History. I progressed to teaching English, Spanish, and some Special Education Resource classes at the High School level, and continued to teach lower level English classes at a local college along with reading in an Adult Continuing Education program through another college. My writing skills have been sharpened as I edited and wrote articles for newsletters, newspaper releases, and in an administrative capacity.
I enjoy teaching and do my best to make learning fun and easy for my pupils. I approach lessons by letting the student realize how and why the lesson is important and how it relates to their lives.
