A Little Bit About Me...

My son & myself have Dyslexia & ADHD, plus, my son has a few other learning disability's, so the experts say. We have learned together how to make all of this work for us. I researched a lot & learned how to teach him how to make it all this work for him. He was on low dose med's for 6 months, I took him off because he learned the difference in 7th grade. No reason for any more med's. I do not think kids should be labeled as "disabled" because others think different then they do! My son thinks way different then my daughter but that doesn't mean either one is wrong. My son is very successful at his job & he is now a boss & he loves his job. He is 31 years old and a great person, everyone like him.

My comments on tutoring Special Education : I worked all through high school with special needs children. And also in my adult working life had had to job train and teach on computer those with special needs.

Experience throughout school, work and personal experience dealing with the mentally challenged and dyslexia. my best friend had a son who was dyslexic and also he had ADD and I got him to trust me in babysitting and I taught him various things. I taught him how to read and write he could not accomplish that on his own. He was 11 at the time and I think with kids you have to be creative to teach them and I am very creative. I also have an aunt who is mentally handicapped, and I love spending time with her she is a very giving person. They teach me and it is always a joy to work with them and give something back.
Hands on approaches mixed with worldly knowledge, and a very patient style.

Building a good relationship with a child is key to helping them learn. When good relationships are developed children can then trust the teacher or tutor to help them in whatever way possible. This relationship builds a good emotional bank account and children will do hard things when asked. I know that all children can learn. I have seen it while working with the wonderful children at the school I worked at.
I recently graduated from Brigham Young University in April 2011. I am a graduate in Communications can help in English, Writing, Editing but also took AP Calculus and AP Statistics and passed both tests. I love math but feel that communicating through writing is very important. Though I studied Psychology while attending Utah Valley University, I spent two and a half years tutoring college students in English. I spent my senior year editing a scholarly journal for the School of Business Management. As a tutor, I helped students who were learning English as a second language to comprehend and properly use idioms and phrases in their writing, as well as helping them with spelling and grammar. I also helped students whose writing lacked polish to improve papers written for many different subjects.
