My comments on tutoring Statistics : Especially experienced explaining basic statistical concepts to students who typically struggle with math.

During undergraduate, I tutored several of my classmates in different chemistry and math courses. Additionally, I've had the pleasure of being a teaching assistant for 2 years for undergraduate statistics. As a TA, I was responsible for summarizing new material, reviewing the concepts, and going over the homework for groups of 20 to 30 students. I've also had a good amount of experience working with smaller groups of students or 1-on-1 with students who came to my office hours.
Patient and encouraging. I usually like to summarize the material and give a bit of context and work through an example. As a freshman forensic chemistry undergraduate student I was tested out of the general chemsirty courses offered at York College. This being the case I needed to find a way to keep chemistry fresh in my mind till the higher level courses were available to me. A professor suggested that I become a lab assistant for the general chemistry classes. This job included preparing all necessary chemicals as well as working closely with the students and faculty. The educators in VN were very tough. Call it tough love. While I learned a great deal, I always felt "abused" by the teachers (nuns). Many times during the school week, I came home with red markings on my face or hands. I take a softer approach. If you get a child excited, he/she will learn best!
