My comments on tutoring College Algebra : Took in high school.

I have helped tutor AVID high school students when I was a senior at Cherry Creek High School. I enjoy helping the kids learn and believe that being a tutor would pay it forward since I had so much help from tutors. I always helped my friends out because I was in higher level classes than them some of the times. I also worked with tutors and know how much of a difference they can make. I'm currently studying at CSU and still work with friends on homework if they need help.
I believe in success. There is no guarantee someone will learn on the first try. It's all about enjoying the learning experience and positive reinforcement. I also believe in humor and think that it can help a lot in peoples difficult situations.

When I was in high school I had a lot of anxiety about math. I went back to college late in life and I was terrified that I would have to take a few math courses to graduate. It wasn't long before math was my favorite class and I changed my major. When I was in school I helped a lot of my classmates with calculus. I believe the most effective way to learn is through self discovery of the concepts. This should be done in a very positive environment in which the student is encouraged and motivated to fully understand the material. I don't believe in memorization, but understanding.

My degrees have taken me places that I never thought they would. I was excited to teach English in a school in Costa Rica for one year. There I was able to learn Spanish quickly as well as help elementary school children learn English. I taught grammar as well as science. I also tutored on the side in all subjects. While I was attending Weber State University, my part-time employment was to be a mathematics tutor for recent high school grads who did not pick up math from the elementry levels. I would tutor 8 hrs a day in between my classes for two years Student Support Services in Ogden UT where the college is located.
