Throughout my four years at Marquette I tutored in three programs including the federally recognized TRIO program to help advance the college prospects of inner city minorities. I find that tutoring is very fulfilling and a good way to give back to the community. I like to break down the subject into terms that a person might find more interesting or easier to understand. I think that building trust is also very important in the tutor relationship. The trust will allow the student to admit what he/she doesn't understand and why they may feel confused or frustrated. During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. I worked with students from a variety of backgrounds (ESL, freshman comp, MS candidates, etc). At Metro State I participated in a semester program teaching English in Puerto Rico, for which I received the ESL certification. I also TA'd for Writing and Designing for the Web. I attended the University of North Dakota for 4 years and in that time received a BA in Anthropology which has provided me the experience and knowledge of helping people in holistic ways. I now attend graduate school to obtain an MS in Applied Anthropology.
