I was a technical instructor for an oil/gas company for just over 5 years. We focused on competency based training along with ensuring skills would transfer into the workplace. Prior to that, I graduated from a highly technical private engineering school with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. The school was on a trimester schedule so that we could finish a normal 5 year degree in only 4 years so it was a highly demanding program. When I was in high school, I volunteered to tutor students in math and science during my study hall hour. I was also in AP math, science and english classes. During my time at Colorado College, I worked as a chemistry tutor helping my younger peers traverse the challenging General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry course loads. But because of CC's rigorous alternative schedule--where you take one class at a time, for one month each class--it's necessary to learn to pick up new concepts very quickly, I often found myself being asked for help in classes I myself was taking. I never minded this, because being forced to explain something is the best way to ensure your own understanding of the concept. I graduated high school in the International Baccalaureate program with a 4.5 gpa and 30 college credits. I then went on to the University of Colorado starting out as a sophomore.
