Graduate student looking to help students achieve their goals!

I think teaching styles should differ based on the preferred learning style of the student. The teaching style should play on the strengths and preferences of that particular student. That being said, I foster a student-centered approach to learning. This approach encourages the student play an equal, active role in the learning process, rather than a passive role. A cooperative approach is important so the student can feel like he or she is an active and capable participant in learning the material. I also believe in leading by example and allowing the student to use me as a resource for reviewing their work.

I worked for Panther Academic Support Services at UW Milwaukee from Sept 2007 to May 2011. I tutored students individually and in group settings in math and science courses. I have worked with students from all academic backgrounds. I began tutoring algebra to incoming freshmen. I tutored calculus to business students and I tutored physics to students studying health science. I really like to teach but only topics I really believe in. I am not a good salesperson for the same reason, if I don't believe in something you can see right through me. I have seen too many adults and kids taught the steps to something, do "A" then do "B" then do "C". This is fine until it is required that we need to do A,B,F or B,A,C. Then this poor person is left with no other angle. I am very creative and resourceful teacher, if I can teach an understanding of what "A" does, why we do "A", and when to do "A", then when A,B,F is needed the person has skills to think their way through it.
