My teaching style is my tutoring style as I do mostly tutoring. I work with students to determine the missing math procedures or concepts. When a student misses a question, I do not simply show them the solution or correct answer. I solve the problem with the student (without looking at the answer) by discussing the approach (procedure) together. In this way, we share the approach to the solution and weak spots are revealed.
I have had a very successful career as an Engineer/Plant Manager. I changed careers and I am now Teaching/Tutoring. I teach/tutor High School math at an inter-city school (IPS). Hands on, real world examples are the most effective when learning mathematics. It is very important to understand the theory behind what is calculated, in order to understand what is being done. Working lot of examples, from different points of view, and finding easy ways to sanity check your answers is also important.
My ultimate professional goal is to become a statistics teacher at the university level. I have learned that the best way to teach is to let the student know how much you enjoy the subject and then work to make them feel the same way. I also know that you cannot predict what methods will be best for all people. I prepare extensivesly with sample tests, worksheets, as well as fun learning activities.
