Taught classes in GED in workplace to help co-workers qualify for promations; also taght GED at Skinner M.S as part of field work for teachers classes in which I received an "A"; was an AVID (advancement via individual determination) in both middle school and Hinckley H. S. for four years. AVID helps students learn to think for themselves rather than parroting answers to standardized tests -- taught all four major subjects (math, science, english, and social studies) but did especially well in english and social studies; when I was younger gave french horn lessons. Been a support group leader for people with epilepsy and have given lectures on dealing with people with hidden disabilities to the State of Colorado employees; as a parent have experience dealing with ADHD issues in grade school and teenage students

A Little Bit About Me...

I am an active teacher. I want students to understand the subject in the context of their own lives as opposed to just learning definitions. If they can realate the information to an actual happening, they are more likely to remember. In terms of test preparation, aside from learning the information it is important to work on test-taking skills (relaxation, focus, etc.). Being prepared for such large tests is more than just knowing, it is recalling under pressure. I work with all of that to help the student.
