I am a question-answer type of teacher. I like to demonstrate, have them do, answer questions, clear up ambiguities, and then test or at least check to insure learning and understanding. I have a style of quiet, but firm expectations. I have a great amount of patience. I will do best with high school and college age students, and on occasion, with more mature middle school students.
I have been an "instructor"-teacher for over 15 years. I teach math, economics, finance, business, and management for several colleges. I have been a Boy Scoutmaster and merit bade counselor and have worked with youth for over 15 years. I graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. I am very patient with students of all ages and have an ability to get them to grasp fundamental concepts. My tutoring style is one of getting students to think critically and creatively and to see the fundamental patterns for successful problem solving. I do not just give students the answer to questions or a slick heuristic method for solving a particular problem. Rather I try to get them to think for themselves so that they will be able to solve problems of a wide variety on their own. I am patient and love to work with children. I believe that every child has a natural drive to seek knowledge. However, classes at school are often too big to allow for different approaches to teaching.

I believe that given the appropriate instruction in the basics, any child can excell in any field. It is the job of the educator to insure that the mastery of the basics is accomplished before pushing the student further. This is true in academics as well as sports or any other field of endevor. I have always insisted that students in mathematics show the appropriate steps on paper as to how they arrived at their solutions. There are times for group discovery but math becomes an individual pursuit and therefore sometimes requires an individual level of instruction.
