The challenge of teaching is the constant upheaval of technique due to the myriad of personalities and backgrounds which make up the typical classroom. I enjoy listening and, as a creative writer, am perceptive to my surrounds. This, i've found, is a necessary trait in the life of the successful teacher. I am a stickler for proper sentence structure, grammar, and spelling; I believe that a command of written English can open doors in life which appeared previously to be intractably sealed, and can create either employment or advancement opportunities which might not otherwise have been possible. An obvious example is how a well-written resume and cover letter will many times make all the difference in whether or not you find yourself in front of the interviewer. Our society seems to be losing its affection for the written word, both reading it and composing it, and I have enjoyed the privilege over many years of helping willing individuals refine and sharpen their use of language to express themselves more clearly and accurately.

I have discovered that every students is capable of achieving greatness if someone will take the time and effort to learn their learning style. I pride myself in being able to break things down to the most basic levels if necessary in order to reach a student. Often you have to know a child's personality, background, and home life in order to understand what he or she relates to. I don't believe in teaching a subject, I believe in teaching a student. I also do not believe in giving up. If the first method doesn't work then we will continue to try until something clicks and that child grasps the material and excels at it.
