A Little Bit About Me...

I completed a BA in English from Union University in 2003. I tutored and proofread for other university students and contributed most of the writing for the yearbook my senior year. I began working in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions upon graduation and have been responsible for editing and revising the recruitment material we mail out each fall. I also worked as a substitute teacher during my time in college. I have not been employed yet just as tutor, but tutoring is a perfect culmination of my skills and love for students.

I have a BS in biology, however I have a passion for teaching. In 2006, I was a Teach Tennessee fellow. This program's intent is to fast track degreed professionals into an education career. I spent some time teaching in the public school system. I had to resign my postion, due to family a family situation. I continued my work as a substitute teacher. I love working with students and appreciate the moment when they finally understand a concept with which they have struggled.

During my experience as a tutor, I like dealing with the type of student who is willing to learn and put forth an effort. I like to show students how to solve the problem and then give them an opportunity to display what they have learned. Math is a difficult subject and it is important to learn the dynamics step by step. I would prefer to help the student who wants to learn and retain versus the crammer who wants to try to learn everything the night before a test. I have discovered that every students is capable of achieving greatness if someone will take the time and effort to learn their learning style. I pride myself in being able to break things down to the most basic levels if necessary in order to reach a student.
