English ESOL is one of my top subjects! Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from Mississippi College. I also have 1 year experience as an ESL teacher in the public school system.

While studying at MC, I took the opportunity to live and study abroad in Costa Rica, where I learned most of my conversational Spanish. After graduating from Mississippi College with a bachelor's in Spanish and a certificate in TESOL, I lived abroad in Peru working for an orphanage. Upon returning to the States, I worked as an ESL and Spanish teacher at both middle school and high school level. When teaching a language, I believe one should not only have the knowledge of the grammar and syntax, but the skills of communication. Thus, I implement a lot of conversational English and Spanish in my lessons within the classroom and tutoring. Depending on the age level, language acquisition techniques are changed to fit their interest level.

A Little Bit About Me...

I grew up in Spain as my parents were career missionaries. From the time I was young, I have enjoyed teaching and have done it whenever I could. In 13, I taught my younger brother to read. All during high school, I tutored students. When I went to college, my part-time job was to be the assistant to the Spanish professor and to teach in the language lab. I taught for many years in schools overseas, in Nicaragua and Spain. In the U.S. I taught Spanish for 2 years in Piney Woods and 3 years at Clinton High School.
It is my belief that all have the right to receive a thorough and complete education. Children who enter the system at kindergarten should be surrounded by an environment where they can achieve their maximum potential. A Little Bit About Me...

From 1998-2003, I taught English and French at the University of Yaounde. From January 2004 to May 2009, I taught French and English at Pennington Jr. High in Indianola,MS. I spent the current school year with Sunflower County Schools as foreign language coordinator and as from August 2010, I will be working with Jackson Public Schools. I am also a faculty consultant with ETS and Mississippi Virtual Public School.
I prefer a participative and collaborative teaching style. This involves an active participation of the students. My role is limited to that of guide, facilitator, and helper. Instead of telling or giving students the concepts or skills, I help them discover them. This allows for easier comprehension and longer retention.
