A Little Bit About Me...

In the process of earning my BA in History (minor in Archaeology), I became familiar with a broad range of historical subjects. My certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) gave me a familiarity with mathematics and statistics, as well as conventions of scientific research and reporting. My MA required a publication-ready thesis, which would not have been possible without organization and self-motivation.
It is widely acknowledged that students learn in a variety of ways. A lot of times people are turned away from it due to a high school math experience that they perceive as dry and boring. When I tell people I love math, I too often hear "well, better you than me!" I think part of the high school math experience should include turning students on to mathematical discovery. As an undergraduate at MIT, I have a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, and have complete master of those taught at the high school level. I have also completed several advanced courses in chemistry, biology, and physics, but am still young enough to remember the techniques I used to learn those subjects when I myself was a high school student. I have prepared many students (privately) for final exams in biology, geometry, and algebra.
I have a knack for creating analogies and mechanisms to help students remember things for exams, as well as strategies and ways of thinking that may be a little different than what was taught in class (but still gets them to the final result).
