A Little Bit About Me...

In the process of earning my BA in History (minor in Archaeology), I became familiar with a broad range of historical subjects. My certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) gave me a familiarity with mathematics and statistics, as well as conventions of scientific research and reporting. My MA required a publication-ready thesis, which would not have been possible without organization and self-motivation.
It is widely acknowledged that students learn in a variety of ways. In a tutoring environment, I believe in discovering each student’s optimal learning strategy, as well as identifying techniques for making other styles of teaching accessible. I aim to enable further education, as well as transmit more urgently needed information.

Many kids learn best when a "hands on" approach is incorporated into the lecture or instruction. My experience as a tutor is somewhat limited, but I was involved as an ESL tutor for a short time during college. I've had more experience training my coworkers or employees to better understand their jobs or to improve their job skills, but I feel that the experience would be relevant to a tutoring job. I have had years of sales and customer service experience, which has consisted of spending a vast amount of time educating people on products and services.
I enjoy working with both children and adults. I would say that my teaching style involves having an inexhaustible supply of patience which allows me to identify a student's strengths and build on them.
