As an undergraduate student at Utah State University, I spent two years working as a Undergraduate Teaching Fellow, a Teacher's Assistant, and a Supplemental Instructor. I taught labs and assisted students with understanding information in the subject areas of Microbiology, Human Anatomy, and Human Physiology. I held review sessions, created tests and quizzes, and met with students individually or in groups to answer questions, review tests, or improve study habits.
I love teaching because I myself am an avid learner. I have a passion for the subjects I teach and hope that I can instill this same passion in those I teach. I believe that every student can learn the information taught in class, it's more a matter of finding out how each individual student learns. When information is presented in the right way (for each individual), it can make all the difference. What I find most rew ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a retired secondary educator and have taught the following subjects:Drama, Speech, English, T.V.Broadcasting, Debate, Musical Theater. I have also been an adjunct instructor for Salt Lake Community where I taught courses in Theater, and Public Speaking. At Eagle Gate College I have taught courses in Ethics and Communications. Teaching is my passion. I find education the most essential components of our society. It is only through education can we overcome social ills. Education is the key to success.

I believe that children are born smart. Some of them have special learning challenges and some have been taught to believe that they are not smart. By treating children as though they are intelligent and providing encouragement and learning opportunities, I have seen children grow and progress in almost astonishing ways. The sparkle in a child's eyes when they finally "get it" is the best paycheck.
After finishing my Masters Degree in Education I taught one year in a private school then opened my own business tutoring primarily homeschool students during the school year. The students I have worked with are primarily ages 11-18, but my experience with my own children includes the primary grades. I have tutored most subjects including reading, writing, science, history and math (through algebra).

More About This Tutor...

During my undergraduate education at the University of Utah I worked for Upward Bound and for Student Services as a tutor for both High School and College Students. During those three years I tutored all levels of Math as well as Physics, Chemistry and Engineering. I also taught ACT preparation courses. Since then I have tutored students on occasion from elementary age through undergraduate levels in both formal and informal settings. The reason I continue to tutor is the great enjoyment I get from helping someone achieve understanding that they were unable to obtain from their classroom or individual studies.
My tutoring style is based on three principles: patience, excitement for the subject and alternative explanations. Through my tutoring experience and having children of my own I have been able to develop the patience to allow students to work through problems and gain t ... read more
