A Little Bit About Me...

In high school I was able to tutor students in all subjects ranging from English to Math to Musical Studies. Furthering my education at Trinity University in San Antonio, TX really opened my eyes and mind to wider ranges of educational foundations. As a double major in Communication and Classical Studies, I was able to get a well rounded education in all subjects. I feel that I am also skilled in math and got a minor in Art History. I have always enjoyed tutoring students and seeing them "get" the subjects we are touching on.
I have always enjoyed tutoring students and seeing them "get" the subjects we are touching on. The look on their face during this moment is priceless. I fully understand that everyone learns things in different ways. While one student may be able to memorize and understand facts one way, say by repetition, another student may learn the information by understan ... read more

I believe each audience deserves the correct teaching style(s). If the student has not reached a high level of education then I hold no opinion of this. I utilize a multi-cultural perspective and my appreciation and understanding of other cultures allows me to assist in the creation of an experiential-based lesson for the student. I believe there are many different teaching styles that may be utilized in different student populations. However, it is still possible for traditional educators to become rigid and shortsighted in time. I do not believe I fall into this category. My extensive travelling and continued attention to providing state of the art educational experiences is what sets me apart.
During the last eight years I have worked full-time in vocational and adult education environments. In addition to ESL, I have taught VESL (Vocational English as a Second Language), and ... read more

First, and foremost, I believe that effective learning is both fun and relevant. I have always been able to make a game of it and to make it both interesting and challenging to others. My goal is never to teach them a rote solution, but to challenge them to think about the concepts and have then tell me the answers. This builds their confidence and solidifies their learning experience. I find that if they understand how a concept was derived in the first place, they seldom forget that story and therefore have learned something that will stay with them for a live time. I prefer to use the Socratic Method and draw the information from my students. Again, I think it is best if they THINK rather than learn. Over time I see all my students (and all our five daughters) have responded well to this approach.

I have found that there is nothing so rewarding as that moment when a subject 'clicks' for a student. By staying positive and adaptive I believe it is possible to guide students to finding solutions on their own. I work at finding new ways to approach common stumbling blocks and try to show students how applicable math is to everyday life. If it had not been for a few extraordinary teachers, I may not have felt it possible to accomplish what I have. Teachers should be positive and inpirational and I always strive to attain that goal.
I received my B.S. in physics and went on to work at a Community College tutoring math. I enjoyed this work immensely and received excellent reviews from the students. While working at the college I also tutored middle school and high school students privately. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children of all ages. I feel my career in social work has allowed me to become more centered on compassion as a means of education, and engaging the child in the learning process while being compassionate. Children typically learn best when in a positive, comfortable situation. I would like them to feel comfortable enough to feel like they can be their best around me.
As a former paraprofessional with a Master's Degree in Social Work I have worked with kids in the past behaviorally and academically. I have a solid grasp of English, Grammar, Social Studies, and Mathematics.
