Effective teaching requires clear instructing. I attempt to break each assignment down to its simplest level. Ideas must be transformed into practical, relevant information that enable students to make difficult concepts easy to understand and comprehend. It is the only way to appreciate the rote and, in the end, capture the essence of the subject matter. Simplicity has been a key to my success as a teacher.
Having grown up with a family of educators, there was never any doubt I would become a teacher. My most recent professional degree is an MFA in Creative Writing. I taught Composition Writing as an adjunct instructor for 2 years. I work as a roving substitute teacher for the Sioux Falls School district, having taught various subjects from early-childhood to High School mathematics. I teach as an online writing instructor. My main subject of expertise is in writing and English Literature as I received a BS in English while tutoring college students for the University Writing Center for 3 years. More About This Tutor...

I work well with children of all ages and am considerably patient, easygoing, although stern as well with my students. My teaching style consists of visual illustrations mixed with a lecture or teaching session. Through my experiences at USD I have determined that the amalgamation of these two styles produce more stimulating teachings as well as information retention being maximized as well. I typically work off of a performance based reward system since it appears to me that children are motivated by praise and reward in order to push them to do better on each successive obstacle they encounter in the classroom
