I have a bachelor's degree from the College of Saint Benedict. During my college education I worked for three years as a college writing tutor helping my students achieve academic excellence. Due to my degree and work experience I have ample experience and expertise in grammar, writing process and writing technique. Following my education I served two years with AmeriCorps: The first year with the Minnesota ReadingCorps wherein I worked with under-achieving first graders and the second year with the National Civilian Community Corps wherein I traveled the American Southwest doing various service projects.

Effective teaching requires clear instructing. I attempt to break each assignment down to its simplest level. Ideas must be transformed into practical, relevant information that enable students to make difficult concepts easy to understand and comprehend. It is the only way to appreciate the rote and, in the end, capture the essence of the subject matter. Simplicity has been a key to my success as a teacher.
Having grown up with a family of educators, there was never any doubt I would become a teacher. I hold a MS degree in Educational Administration and a BS degree in English and have taught 26 years of high school, primarily seniors. My most recent professional degree is an MFA in Creative Writing. I taught Composition Writing as an adjunct instructor for 2 years. I work as a roving substitute teacher for the Sioux Falls School district, having taught various subjects from early-childhood to High School mathematics. I teach as an online writing instructor. My main subject of expertise is in writing and English Literature as I received a BS in English while tutoring college students for the University Writing Center for 3 years. I also taught ESL to Korean High School students for 1 year overseas. I also have experience tutoring student athletes and helping them develop strong study habits.
