I am usually able to find a unique way to make the student think about his learning. I try to teach to mastery. I earned a Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University in 1984. My subjects of passion were math and science and I enjoy working with children who struggle in those areas. I have home schooled my son through the end of 12th grade and he was ready for college freshman classes at age 15. Starting in his second grade year, we were joined by a student who has learning disabilities. He also thrived in the tutorial teaching environment. My desire is to work with children who really desire to learn but need that extra time and encouragement to succeed. I tend towards a "supporting /coaching" style when teaching. Although there is no one best style for all situations, this style highlights the value of encouraging independent thinking, problem solving, and ownership for learning.
