Experience Summary
I worked at Moorpark College as an ESL and Writing Tutor, helping students discover ways to identify and clarify ideas, refine a topic, outline ideas, and develop the skills needed to work independently. I have my BA from Scripps College in both English and History. I have significant experience tutoring within the humanities, but also German, math and the sciences. I started college as a Biology major, so I have a firm grounding in mathematics and the sciences, which I have bolstered to prepare for graduate school in Architecture. I was a Jumpstart (AmeriCorps) team leader, which involved implementing early childhood curriculum and promoting skill building for at-risk preschool children.
Teaching Style
I have helped children prepare for preschool through games and activities, and community college students brainstorm ideas for transfer essays. I am very organized, responsible and trustworthy. I have worked at a Montessori preschool and am comfortable using hands-on, creative methods for learning. Each student is different and learning approaches need to reflect that. I have worked with sensory-sensitive preschoolers, mentally challenged high school students, and ESL students ranging in age from 3 to 40. Whether they needed to learn how to tie their shoes, write an essay, the parts of an atom, how to use a conjunction, why the slope of a line is important, or how to write their name, I was there to help.
