When I substitute for a teacher, I want to see a lesson plan. I do not want to be the classroom babysitter. If there is no plan for the day I involve the students in making one. I'm currently working on obtaining my teaching certificate, to go along with my bachelors degree in Social Science. Hopefully, I will be able to go on to receive my Masters in Education. I have been able to tutor students in reading, sentence structure, English and American history.
I love teaching and interacting with today's young kids. They fascinate me. Every child has different learning systems and sometimes it takes several tries to reach that special spot that opens the child's eyes to what excites them about learning. The thrill that I feel when that point is found and theirs, (And my, excitement,)grows. There is no feeling in the world like that!

When I teach, I am patient, positive, and encouraging. Being that I have graduated from both Concordia College and Ivy Tech Community, I have found that I am well prepared in providing services to young children. I have taught Head Start children for several years. I received many accolades for my work with children from supervisors, co-workers, and parents as well. I also tutored children in reading in their homes and other public places. A Little Bit About Me...

I am not overbearing. I am laid back, but at the same time, I make sure that the student learns what he/she needs to learn. I am very patient. I try to respect the student and not make learning seem like a chore. Building a foundation of learning skills, even during a short tudoring session can really change a student's approach in all of their classes.
I have taken education classes at Northern Kentucky University. At one point, I was considering on being a Art Teacher. I didn't finish with that path, but I did gain much experience with children and knowledge during that time in working with students. I have worked and studied special needs children as well. I still consider going back for a Master's at some point in education. I think this job would be beneficial in my goals, and for my students, and a great learning experience for us both.

My teaching experience includes high school Home Economics and Special Education, elementary third grade, middle school Language Arts, adult reading at Job Corps, preschool, Emotional Handicapped at the elementary level, and substitute teaching. I worked as an evaluator for the state educational competency exams in elementary and high school for three different states and as such graded the language arts/writing/reading sections.
