A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored students of all ages, from elementary school to adults. I have taught at the elementary level, and substitute taught kindergarten through high school, but I most enjoy tutoring one-on-one. For the last two years, I have tutored adults studying to earn their GED, primarily in math, and over the past six years, I have taught the Microsoft Office Suite of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. I have tutored general math, algebra I, geometry, and I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in biology.
When I teach, I am patient, positive, and encouraging. I have found that if a child is having trouble in a given subject, the first thing a teacher needs to do is access the child’s learning style. All children learn differently and if a child is having problems it is often because the information has only been presented one way. Therefore the material needs to be presented in various ways until the student learns it by which ever method works best for them. I get excited by helping children and adults learn and find it exciting to try to figure out why a student has not learned the subject area he/she is asking for help in. I am patient, helpful, and very creative in my teaching!

A Little Bit About Me...

When I substitute for a teacher, I want to see a lesson plan. I do not want to be the classroom babysitter. If there is no plan for the day I involve the students in making one. I'm currently working on obtaining my teaching certificate, to go along with my bachelors degree in Social Science. Hopefully, I will be able to go on to receive my Masters in Education. I have been able to tutor students in reading, sentence structure, English and American history.
I love teaching and interacting with today's young kids. They fascinate me. Every child has different learning systems and sometimes it takes several tries to reach that special spot that opens the child's eyes to what excites them about learning. The thrill that I feel when that point is found and theirs, (And my, excitement,)grows. There is no feeling in the world like that!
